Azerbaijani Leader Condoles Iranian President Over Khamenei’s Death

(MENAFN) Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reached out to his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday, offering formal condolences following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the joint U.S.-Israeli military offensive.

In a message published by the Azerbaijani presidential press service, Aliyev expressed grief over the killing, writing: "We are deeply saddened by the news of the tragic death of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

The Azerbaijani leader directed his condolences to President Pezeshkian, Khamenei's family, and the broader Iranian public, urging them toward patience and resilience in the days ahead.

Aliyev paid tribute to the late supreme leader's decades-long influence over Iranian governance and religious affairs. "Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei played an important role in the life of the Iranian state and society for many years and was a figure who held a special place in the political and religious life of his country. His death is a great loss for Iran," he said, closing with a wish for peace, stability, and security for the Iranian people during what he called a difficult period.

Khamenei was killed in the early hours of Saturday when U.S. and Israeli forces struck his office in a coordinated operation. Iran's Supreme National Security Council confirmed his death, declaring it would mark the beginning of a "great uprising against the tyrants of the world."
